For those of you experiencing problems here is some configuration advice...
With the Draytek Vigor 2100VG the configuration settings are different from those explained on the setup page. If you use port 5060 and voiptalk.org you may be okay but you will be limited to the 8kbs codecs when if you have a strong broadband connection you will get better quality from a 64kbs codec.
Don't upgrade your firmware unless you have a problem but if you do, try going to ftp.draytec.com. I upgraded from version 2.5.5.1 to 2.5.5.4 and also reset
In order to register with VOIPTALK SIP REGISTRY use either the web configuration tool or a telnet session.
use the left-hand-pane in the left pane open [VOIP] and click [SIP RELATED FUNCTION] in the right-hand-pane type the following in the 'SIP' boxed section
SIP Port: 5065
Registrar: voiptalk.org
Proxy: nat.voiptalk.org
Domain/Realm : voiptalk.org
[do not tick STUN box or enter any value]
below this in the 'Ports Setting' boexed section enter your account details. Ensure that you tick the 'Use Registrar' box and I recommend that you set the expiry time to 10 minutes via the web browser. [click the 'okay' button to save your settings].
Alternatively if you are getting problems with loss of registration then I recommend you connect to the router via a telnet or windows hyperterminal session and set it to two minutes - the command being 'voip sip endpt1 expire 120'.
Now for CODECS
in the left pane open [VOIP] and click [CODEC / RTP / DTMF] option.
in the right pane you may now select whichever codec suites you.
If you have a strong connection then try using one of the codecs that requires more bandwidth (set it and then once the rest is configured try the echo test. If necessary drop to a lower bandwidth option e.g. 8kbs).
My recommendation is as follows:
Codecs
Default Codec : G.711A (64Kbs)
Packet Size : 20 ms
DTMF :
SIP INFO / payload type 101 (If you have trouble with tone related phone services such as automated meter readings then try using 'INBAND')
RTP
Dynamic RTP port start : 10050
Dynamic RTP port end : 15000
Click [Okay] to save your settings.
Now proceed to the in the left pane open [VOIP] and click [Voice Call Status] option.
After a while you should see an [R] appear to indicate you are registered.
Try phoning the 'echo test' number 904 and move the volume gain setting up and down (with the left and right arrow buttons] so that you can comfortably hear yourself without getting echo. However I recommend that the default '5' is normally about right.
Now proceed to the in the left pane open [VOIP] and click [QoS] option.
By default this is enabled (with a tick) and set to a value of 2000Kbs. In practice most people on broadband will have between 110 and 215 Kbs upstream speads. (There are a number of 'broadband test sites' which will tell you this which you can find via a search engine). If you are unable to use the internet for data downloads whilst on the phone then try reducing this to a number such as 150. Note that if you turn this feature off and try to download a large file, then the quality of your phonecall will suffer and may also get disconnected. When you have finnished click [okay].
After a short period all settings should tack effect. Otherwise try rebooting the router, either by swithing it off and back on again or by using the web-form section [System Maintenance] and [Reboot System]. 'Keeping the current settings' click okay.
